Chris Burger, manager of our showroom in Paarl, had a visit from the Stormers player Evan Roos. Chris shared some of his expertise and the result of this meeting of minds was a warm and welcoming home.
Furnishing a home and choosing pieces that will suit your unique space and lifestyle isn’t always easy. When it’s your first home, you also want the assurance that you have solid foundation that you can build on in the years to come.
Everyone’s needs are different, especially when taking comfort, style and colour into consideration. Helping Stormers rugby player, Evan Roos, create his private living space was a real privilege. As a starting point Evan and I looked at his house plans to get an overview of what his needs for every room would be.
The fact that we were able to do all of this in our Paarl showroom over cappuccinos certainly made our task that much easier. With my years of experience in sales and knowledge of Incanda’s furniture I was able to walk him through the options available and offer some guidance when it came to making some big decisions.
As we walked through the showroom, I could show Evan our whole range and he was also able to get a feel for everything and identify which items he found most comfortable. Together we were able to select items that created a stylish and timeless overall look.
TV lounge
When selecting couches for a relaxed area in a home, practicality and comfort are important – especially when you lean towards being taller as in Evan’s case. A home should not only be a place where you can enjoy yourself, but also be yourself. We agreed that our Westerman couch was the best fit for Evan. The seats are deep, comfy and sports timeless and clean lines. With its broad arm rests this couch leans towards the masculine and is one of Incanda’s top sellers.
We chose bovine leather in a ginger colour for the upholstery and paired the two couches with a set of Clarens chairs, upholstered in the same leather.
The chairs with its oak frames helped bring balance to the space and echoed the rest of the wood furniture we incorporated throughout the house.
Even though the chairs also have strong, modern lines, the addition of a round Tankwa coffee table helped to soften the space and allowed for enough space to move around.
Dining Room
Evan’s home is open plan, and the dining room blends into the lounge. Our slightly finer Kitchen table worked very well contrasted with the adjacent sturdy couches.
It lent a lighter feel to the space as a whole and was ideal in the sense that it didn’t take up more space than was really needed.
The hand-stitched dining chairs and the slightly taller kitchen chairs tucked in under the nearby counter, blends well with the overall colour palette. The light stitching on all the chairs adding that finer detail needed.
The pista pecan coloured leather used on the chairs is slightly darker and a bit more mottled that the ginger, which provided some subtle, yet welcome, contrast. In keeping with the overall natural colour scheme, our Linear server seemed like the obvious choice – simple and elegant.
Main Bedroom and Guest Rooms
When it came to choosing a bed for the main bedroom, going for extra length was an obvious must. The Karee bed has strong lines and gives one an overall sturdy, masculine feel.
We decided to stick to oak for the wooden items throughout the home which helps to visually bind individual elements as well as separate spaces together. Opting for a solid oak headboard with the Karoo bed seemed like the most practical choice for a main bedroom.
Our Swazi dressers and bedside tables worked very well in every room. The drawers are practical, and there is enough surface space for a reading lamp and some books.
The black framed mirrors above the dressers are not only practical but served its purpose of introducing some contrast in the softer, neutral space.
In the end we were able to put together a timeless foundation that will allow Evan to make the necessary changes as time goes by with minor additions here and there.
