It’s time to change up your dining room and welcome in a new style to complement the new season. But how do you introduce a new style, without it clashing with your current space?
When designing a space, it’s always important to plan each aspect of the room carefully. Always guide your choices by keeping in mind the function, the style, and the atmosphere you’re trying to create. For this dining room setting, we wanted to create a simple modern style, proving that you don’t need much to create a “sit back and relax” kind of atmosphere for friends and family to come together.
HERE ARE A FEW SIMPLE ELEMENTS FOR YOU TO CREATE THIS LOOK IN YOUR HOME
– THE BACKDROP –
We used a simple wallpaper to add texture to the room. When choosing your wallpaper you have to decide if you want all the attention on the wall, for instance a large floral pattern, or if you just want to bring the wall more forward in the room, keeping it simple with some texture. The wallpaper we used is called Parquet, colour Jungle from Hertex, timeless with a touch of vintage elegance.
– THE ART –
We used art from Maria Magdalena, who is a local artist best known for her intricately hand drawn black ink illustrations on crisp white paper. A month after she released her first collection, it was picked up by bloggers and Magdalena was selected as one of Africa’s Emerging Creatives at the International Design Indaba. She has since been featured across all forms of media both locally and internationally. Her work has been exhibited in Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg, Port Elizabeth, Berlin and New York.
– THE TABLE –
The table is a newly launched product in our Incanda Showrooms called the Kalahari. This is a very simple design, highlighting the organic detail of the frame. The glass top is also a first for our dining room range, for clients more interested in a lighter look. We used a traditional seating arrangement which requires space for all the chairs to move easily. If you do not regularly need to seat people on all sides of the table, position the table against a wall and only move it to the middle of the room when you need to lay an extra place or two.
– THE LIGHTING –
Bought in from Hertex, these golden lampara pendants will bring warmth to any room. This is definitely the main feature of the room. Interesting lighting above your dining room table is a must to create that “wow” factor, and gives your eye a place to focus. Bringing in golden elements to any space in your home creates a warm, welcoming feeling, which is exactly the kind of atmosphere you want to create in your dining room. Also available in black.
– THE CHAIRS –
For the chairs, we used the famous wishbone chair. Although you might think this is only a recent trend, the wishbone chair was first manufactured in 1950, and cemented Wegner’s status as one of the biggest names in mid-century modern style with its sleek, ergonomically-minded wooden frame and woven seat. These chairs can easily be added to any design style and is definitely a trend that won’t be saying goodbye any time soon.
– THE DÉCOR –
Simple glass vases were used for the centre piece of the table, with some added greenery to reflect beautifully on the glass table top. If you’re not sure what to use as a centre piece for your table, you can’t go wrong with added greenery or large vases to complete any look.
